Senior Instructor Mark Moss, with the Mississippi State Fire Academy in Pearl, places a single rose into a fire boot in memory of Kole Briscoe of the Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department during the Mississippi Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service at the academy on Tuesdsay. Briscoe was a 16 year-old junior firefighter in 2003 when he was killed in a wreck while responding to a motor vehicle accident. As a junior firefighter, Briscoe's death was not formally recognized as a line-of-duty death by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation until this year, following a petition by his family.
