Ian Campbell, right, of St. Charles, Mo., accepts the French Legion of Honor from Denis Barbet, the consul general of France in Atlanta, on behalf of his grandfather, Gunner's Mate 3rd Class Gerald M. Campbell of Gulfport, who died in May, during a ceremony at the Old Capitol Museum in Jackson on Tuesday. Gerald Campbell is among 11 American World War II veterans recognized with the award during the event in recognition and appreciation for their part in the liberation of France from Nazi forces during the war.
